What is a Small Business Network (SBN)?
The function a Small Business Network (commonly referred to as an "SBN") in a community is to provide support services to small and micro businesses, whose needs differ significantly from large businesses.
What is SBN Long Beach?
SBN Long Beach provides specific services, networking and resources tailored to its members, with an emphasis placed on flexibility, affordability and the time constraints of small businesses.
SBN Long Beach partners with local, state and national organizations that support the needs of small business, and/or help promote its mission by bringing valuable resources to our members.
In May 2009 SBN Long Beach was incorporated as a nonprofit Mutual Benefit and the in the State of California as Greater Long Beach Small Business Association. We do business as the Small Business Network of Greater Long Beach to clearly define our purpose in the community.
What is the cost to join SBN Long Beach?
$20/month or $220/year Community Organization
Includes nonprofits (501c3 & 501c6) corporations, business organizations, associations & neighborhood groups.
$25/month or $275/year Business Partners
Small1 or micro2 businesses or individuals members.
1While the definition of Small Business varies greatly, but for the purpose of this organization we define a small business as one that has less than 20 employees. 2A micro business is defined as one having less than 5 employees.
$40/month or $440/year Corporate Partners
A business or organization that does not meet the criteria of Community Organization or Business Partner memberships, but is committed to supporting the mission of SBN Long Beach, it's businesses and organizations, and the Greater Long Beach business community.
What additional fees are required for joining?
There are no additional fees required for joining.
How long before I am listed as an active member of SBN Long Beach?
Applications for membership are reviewed upon receipt (during normal business hours). Upon approval by the Board of Directors and receipt of dues payment, membership is “live” and benefits may be utilized. Welcome letter, membership plaque, window decal and membership card typically arrive within 7-10 days.
What are my payment options for joining SBN Long Beach?
Payment may be made by check, bank check or credit/debit card. Recurring monthly payments are available through PayPal
® and check.
My business/organization falls into more than one classification type. Is there a charge for having my business listed in more than one category?
SBN Long Beach members may choose to be listed in up to three (3) business categories on the SBN’s website directory and annual printed directory.
How is membership terminated?
Membership terminated by a member is effective with 30 days notice sent in writing to the SBN office and upon payment of any arrears.
Membership terminated by the SBN is made in accordance with the organization’s bylaws.
What is the main difference between chambers of commerce and the Small Business Network of Greater Long Beach (“SBN Long Beach”)?
The majority of chambers of commerce focus on business lobbying at the local, state and national levels. Some conduct candidate academies that introduce business leaders to the process of running for elected office. Their focus is on broad business issues affecting business, large and small.
SBN's primary focus is on the immediate, day-to-day needs of its member businesses. This includes networking, education, and promoting member businesses to the community.
